Drone filming in Brussels. Permits handled.

Most of Brussels sits inside the airport's geozones, so we check your location, file every flight and get the approvals.

Brussels airspace is complicated. That's our job.

Every flight here is filed with skeyes in advance, small drones included, and the open-category ceiling drops from 120 m to 45 m.

Most flights are cleared within days. Near the airport, royal estates or public institutions, allow two to three weeks.

How we get the approvals

  1. Check the map

We look up the location on Droneguide, the official geozone map, and list every zone it touches.

  2. Plan in DAA

We submit the flight in skeyes' DAA planner, which is free to use.

  3. Confirm

VLL2 flights confirm automatically 3 hours before. VLL1 and VLL0 need a manual confirmation.

  4. Fly

On the day, we request tactical authorisation and report take-off and landing.

  5. Extra approvals

Public institutions, royal estates and military zones each get their own request.

  6. The commune

For take-off or landing in public space, we ask the municipality through visit.brussels.

Filming in Brussels: questions

How far ahead should we book a drone shoot in Brussels?

For most of the city, a week covers the skeyes filing with room to spare. If we take off in public space, the commune sets its own pace, so we ask as soon as we know the address. Near the airport, royal estates or public institutions, allow two to three weeks.

Can you film the Grand-Place, the Atomium or the EU quarter?

Often, yes, with planning. All three sit in the airport's geozones and in the Brussels City zone, where flying over or within 50 m of a public institution needs that institution's approval. Busy squares also mean crowds, which we never fly over.

Why can't you fly higher than 45 m in Brussels?

Most of the Region is in the airport's VLL2 geozone, where the open category is capped at 150 ft, about 45 m, instead of the EU's 120 m. Higher flights are a specific-category operation with their own approval.

Do you handle the permits, or do we?

We do. We check the zones, file in skeyes' DAA tool, ask the commune and request any institution or royal-estate approval. You tell us where and when, and give us a contact at the location.
